A good wine, but clearly past its prime. It still has a nice structure, but little fruit left and some slightly dusty tanins not fully resolved. Good fun to try, but clearly not an impressive delivery for this excellent vintage.

Lunch at Wah Lok. Cork nearly soaked through but came out in one piece with Durand. Color was light brick, looks aged. Clean and expressive nose with flowers and tobacco notes. Much younger on the palate, more like something from 80s. Tannins mostly softened with bright acidity. Silky and velvet like on the palate, good complexity and extremely long finish. Tobacco notes were lingering on forever. No ABV on the label but was likely around 12%. The label also printed with a chop of “Selection Nicolas”, what does that mean? Went perfectly with roasted duck. Two of us were struggling to find fault in this wine for the first two hours, by 2.5 hrs mark, slightly elevated acidity level. Based on this experience, good bottle should last another 10 to 20 years. Truly magnificent bottle of Pomerols, I am willing to pitch this bottle against any Pomerols from any vintage. 99+ points.

A delicious old Vieux Certan, slightly faded but still charming. It still has some fruit, and very soft (light) tanins, a delicate structure and a nice balance. Past its prime but still enjoyable, and it is like drinking History.

From magnum. Gorgeous. Soft dark fruit earth and violet. Great color and very silky.
