  • Same day purchase. Well-balanced between fresh fruit and tertiary characteristics, and with decent intensity, but in the end, i can't say it's that exciting.

  • Vinturi-decanted and serially sampled over the ensuing three hours, this bottle shows similar flavors and aromatics as 11/7/12, but the tannins are a bit more astringent. Deep ruby, medium-to-full-bodied, freshly acidic and with well-integrated alcohol (13%), it offers nicely layered black currant fruit, lavender, espresso and allspice. A light component of brett is tolerable and the middle palate is solid. Medium in length and with substantial tannic grip on the finish, I think that a revised drinking window is in order here. Drink 2018-2030.

  • Very drinkable now, sweet and fruity on the nose, 90% merlot, 10% cabernet franc. Really opens up when swirled. Great value.

  • This deep ruby wine was Vinturi-decanted and allowed to aerate in the decanter for 3+ hours prior to consumption. It was then serially tasted over another two hours. The aeration time allows this wine to show a beautiful bouquet of black currants, sage, crushed rocks and dark cherries. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, ample fine-grained tannins, well-integrated alcohol (listed as 13%) and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle palate is solid and the slightly tart finish is at least medium in length. This is a very nice showing for Bellisle Mondotte and should provide pleasure for another 15 years or more. Drink now-12/27.

  • Very nice, with a complex nose of cigar box and red fruit, and a palate to match. The only puzzle is that everything is loaded at the front of the palate, with nothing left to follow through--not only nothing at the back but also nothing in the middle. Clearly plenty of development remains in store. Whether these voids will fill remains an interesting question.
