While most of the Gai & Rey I had in the past years from the 2000s are oxidized, the 90s when well stored still deliver.
Beautifully ripe with a deep gold color, this showed no sign of oxidation but rather just notes of perfect ripeness a creamy texture and a great length with fairly moderate but just enough acidity to keep it balanced. What a stunning bottle. The wine kept its profile when opened for the entire time it took us to drink it and even after two hours didn’t show any signs of fading.

Lemon gold; hint of green. Classical, rich but sophisticated, clean and elegant nose: buttery with notes of toasted hazlenut, hay, marzipan and lemon. Really complex; developed beautifully in the glass. Initial buttery hit on the palate, some enlivening acidity but quite oily and a little 'heavy', not quite the complexity or the freshness I was getting on the nose. Perhaps the wood aging was just too much for the fruit. Still, merits an outstanding score for the fabulous nose. I'd say this is at its peak now, but certainly no hurry to drink up.
