Classic Rhone style Syrah . Aromas of bacon and oak. Flavors of cinnamon, coffee, blackberry and currant. A well balanced and complex. Good mouthful, fine-grained finish along with spicy oak. Good for a few more years.

I don't feel right giving this a score because it was possibly a flawed bottle. However, it did not seem oxidized. Cork OK. Color was nice: medium-deep clear red. It just did not have much of the expected fruit and mouthfeel that others reported. There was a strong note of oak, that seemed out-of-balance with the rest. Did not really sense the cherry/currant that I'm used to from other Columbia Valley Syrahs (Syncline, for example). I bought this bottle on clearance at a local grocery store, so not sure of its history. It was the 2004 and matched the Appelation; the label was different and does not match the CT photo.

Slightly briney, olive nose. wow, what a great mouthfee, not what I expected.....Balck pepper, currents, unripeblackberry, slight bitter clove finish. Not bad for $22.

Day 2 return to try a second bottle of the mystical Columbia Valley Syrah. Must confirm or reject that 91 with my own glass. Even more impressed with second tasting. I had to rate this tasting a point higher due to that intoxicating bouquet and i timed finish with a stopwatch.
