Gentle, warm, mature, slightly oxidative, autumnal, the hint of cocoa powder and rawness might indicate a touch of brett, lacks definition and transparency, but has weight and length. Not rated.

(Italian Brunner) [vertical with 1994] {Shiraz cab merlot} herbal nose of pee and pong, ashy earth, sweet leather, ricola pastilles, dark berries and herbaceousness. Similarly clean ashy earth and herbs on the palate, somewhat leaner than 1994. Elegant, effortless and complete!

I refer to my previous note. Perhaps a little more gentle and melting, but certainly not fading. Stylish, medium weight, true to type, a subtle and harmonious blend of rich fruit, freshness and grip; a tribute to Henschke quality and longevity. This has an individual finesse that now definitely deserves the extra point.

Fully mature, gentle and aromatic, at first glance not unlike a good claret (if older than 1999 - late 80's rather) but the meaty, beefy Shiraz (70%) aromas give the game away; on the palate the rich and velvety Shiraz is beautifully balanced by the freshness of the (20%) Cabernet-Sauvignon and on the finish the bright red cherries from the (10%) Merlot provide a lovely lift. A very cleverly constructed wine. At peak, nothing to gain so drink up, but no real hurry.
