Community Tasting Notes (average 84.6 pts. and median of 86 pts. in 37 notes)

Tasted by Parnelli on 6/16/2010 & rated 82 points: Skunky on the nose, almost like it was corked, but tasted OK ... not a great cab, just an OK one. Hopefully his newer wines are better. I bought 6 of his '30's' and I thought all were overrated. (375 views)

Tasted by rjswineblog on 4/19/2010 & rated 87 points: Not sure when I bought the Cameron Hughes Lot 34 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford District, but I was looking through my wine supply last weekend and this was in one of my case boxes. Turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

I like this effort from CH. On the nose, it was cherry, menthol and a touch of Playdoh (and I was a big fan of the Playdoh smell when I was young). On taste, the cherry opened up into something much more lush and ripe, a dark, dark cherry, like ones you would find on the ground about a week after it fell off the tree...plum and a little smoke on the finish rounded out this nicely balanced wine. I was encouraged by the moderate acidity and tannins and think this can still age for another couple years - I'll hold on to the other bottle I have to see if that proves out. (695 views)
Tasted by yeastbeast on 3/23/2010 & rated 85 points: Had it with Molli (who isn't drinking right now) over a dinner of grilled salmon and Japonica rice pilaf. I had low expectations based on other CT writeups, but was pleasantly surprised by the mellow, nicely rounded nature of this wine. Nose is somewhat herbal and pinot-like. Fruit of dark cherry and prune but in a good way, with a very smooth, velvety finish. These might be undesirable characteristics for some, but this wine really did it for me tonight. (739 views)

Tasted by HappyWineGuy on 9/30/2009 & rated 51 points: Weird fruit flavor, like a bad plum. Very singular in flavor. Nasty tart with a green, angry finish. Horrible green lawnmower muck. (1250 views)
Tasted by DanSm on 9/12/2009 & rated 82 points: Blueberry, cassias, green pepper, and eucalyptus. Far too herbaceous

Not a favorite style of mine. (1273 views)
Tasted by wineguy58 on 7/18/2009 & rated 84 points: very vegetal...can see why it was offensive to others...went flat after 3 hours...drink now (918 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 5/17/2009 & rated 86 points: Getting slightly and no longer acidic, but not a long term keeper (1483 views)
Tasted by Snoman on 3/4/2009 & rated 89 points: Held this back for a year, and it's really starting to come up now. Lacks structure from longer barrel time, but great juice makes it shine now. Another year or two max, but no longer thin or ascerbic, with appealing nose, round flavors and a short, pleasing finish. Not overwhelming, but very pleasantly satisfying. (1679 views)

 Tasted by ZR1001 on 1/15/2009 & rated 89 points: (1410 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 1/13/2009 & rated 85 points: Dark nose of currents, mocha, oak and hint of sweaty socks. Smooth palate, with dark fruits, mocha, dirt heavy oak. Medium finish, simple, with boysenberry. A little thin, with some rough edges, but easy enough drinking, not bad for the price. (1745 views)

 Tasted by ZR1001 on 6/25/2008 & rated 88 points: (1611 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 5/2/2008 & rated 86 points: Nothing special and somewhat disappointing versus other CH's. A little herbaceous even on the second night. Hope it's a bad bottle (2306 views)
Tasted by ruddy on 1/15/2008 & rated 85 points: Nothing to write home (or CellarTracker about). Somewhat herbaceous, not a lot of richness. Maybe a little Rutherford dust (or maybe it's wishful thinking). Fairly acidic, went better with food than by itself. (2827 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/29/2007 & rated 83 points: WIML80-85.

Tasted November 29, 2007. No formal notes. The nose and palate on this wine seemed to me to be that of a bargain basement kind of wine. Pedestrian, no zip at all. Mostly a blueberry dominated nose with no other fruit to be found because of the dominance. Singular red fruits on the palate. Kind of ho hum. (2971 views)
Tasted by payneclay on 11/12/2007 & rated 92 points: (2289 views)
Tasted by JimKay on 10/23/2007 & rated 89 points: Had this one on a school night - nice dark color, dirt and slight cassis nose. Really nice in the glass. Black, juicy fruits, tannins are present but not astringent or overpowering. Medium bodied, nice 6-8 sec finish. Quite a buy for the price - remember 89 pts = VG to Excellent. This is better than a lot of stuff at twice the price. BTW no bell pepper or other green elements on the nose, palate or finish. (3311 views)
Tasted by phandel on 10/12/2007 & rated 93 points: Had this in the hot tub up with friends in Willows before hitting Thunderhill track the next day. I really liked this! Great complexity and hidden subtleness on the nose, followed by more of the same on the palate. Traditional black cassis and currents throughout, with nice tannins. (3273 views)

Tasted by ZR1001 on 8/28/2007 & rated 91 points: Thie wine should age nicely. (3628 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
