Toasty oak, fresh cut fig, citric nose. Nice bright acidity in mouth, with green apple, lemon curd. Finishes strong with brown butter and a bit of warmth from alcohol. Good freshness for a richer, barrel-aged chardonnay. A second bottle I tasted from showed marked variation, with obvious oxidative, bruised apple character.

Piodilei is a chardonnay somewhere inbetween meursault and california in character, but its high acidity is clearly italian. Nutty, buttery nose with lemon peel, pear pop ice and vanilla. Potent taste with good acids and a really long aftertaste sustained by a slight heat (14%). Likeable wine with the structure for cellaring.

Light straw colour with glycerol tears. The nose gives butter, melon, lily of the valley and a whiff of perfume. Rounded melon character on the palate, dry, with good intensity and marked length, some oak tannins, a bitter finish that we appreciate and nicely integrated 14% alcohol which leaves a warm aftertaste. Really tasty and food friendly. Leave it to deepen in colour, aromas and taste for a couple of years. With prosciutto and galia melon.
