  • Purchased on a huge discount from a local shop ($65 down to $40). I think they were just trying to get rid of it. The bottle looks to be in great shape- good light color, full fill. I decided to take a flyer. The cork is a beast - initially tears in half and then the bottom half gets pulverized and throws a million bits into the wine below. No matter, the wine is a winner anyhow.

Pale yellow in color. Looks like a baby, but the nose reveals some development. Deep aromas of preserved lemons and bruised yellow apple, ripe yellow peaches, a touch of cream, and a subtle nuttiness. Very nice nose.

In the mouth, there are developing ripe and bruised fruits- Golden delicious apple, ripe pear, lemon desserts, crème caramel. The flavors are starting to turn mature, but there is enough acidity to provide lift and freshness. The finish is long and very pleasant.

To my palate, this wine is at a great place. I think it will hold for a bit longer, but I can’t imagine this improving and it’s so good now. I'll add a caveat, my non-wine enthusiast drinking partner was not a fan at all- I think it's got a touch of that old white wine acquired taste thing going on. I loved it though.

  • Purchased on release and 2 cases were our Swedish farm house white-this last bottle was served with a pant load of Premier and Grand Cru white burgs and performed so far above it 's pedigree and price that only morons would not have cases of this at the release price. Light lemon colour with subtle deft roasted Aspen nose and grilled peach pit palate that morphed into a subtle caramel finish that continues to stun me at the Chateau release price

  • Floral start with ripe orchard fruit throughout. Easily still maintaining enough structure and energy. Very good for its price/ level now through 2020.

  • Ripe and powerful orchard fruit but with plenty of acidity that this is still wonderfully fresh.

  • Slightly tropical aromatic start with hints of mint, anise. Less tropical flavors, but still plenty of fat stone fruit with moderate weight and density that is overall very good for its level and price. Drinking well now, still very fresh, and I have 2 more bottles that i will gladly cellar longer.

(Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune du Château) For such a massive production - over 100,000 bottles from 21 hectares of 17 different 1er crus - this wine delivers impressively high quality in almost every vintage, 2005 is no exception. This has a lovely full nose with a creamy depth to the fruit and eventually that faintly vanilla/caramel barrel note that most of these reds are wearing. Concentrated, but vs the previous wines this is more supple and has much finer tannin. Really exemplary balance coupled with good length. I think this is a wine to buy by the case in this vintage.

(Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune du Château) From just under 10 hectares of vines from 4 1er crus. I mentioned to Christophe Bouchard that whilst I often find the red version of this cuvée, I hardly ever encounter the white - he just laughed and said ‘that’s because the Swiss prefer their reds!’. This has a nice wide nose - understated but quite focused and interesting. Richness is quite well balanced by the mouthwatering acidity. Good length too. Quite good, but I don’t see the stunning quality of the red.
