  • Deep ruby appearance. Decanted one hour before drinking. The nose changed considerably as we drank it over a couple of hours - the Bordeaux varietals dominated at first but the Nebbiolo were prominent at the end. Good fruit still there. Initially tight, some blackcurrant, then raspberries, red cherries, roses and perfume. Palate: robust but integrated tannins, persistent finish. A different blend - a nice change but not what I'd normally choose.

  • Dusty red and granite colour in appearance. Nice deep but subtle aromas of ripe berries, cassis and some plums. Tar and florals as well. Flavours repeat on the berries, cassis. Mid palate to finish shows tar and black tea. Smooth drying dusty tannins but not at the forefront. Enjoyable, medium to full bodied.
Kept this wine longer then I intended but still showing well.

  • Anticipating tomorrow's flight, I shared this Langhe. Cork has become soaked halfway (bad transport in origin, it is a bottle bought in Finland) but then those almost ten years in my cellar have served to dry it.
Crimson off with an aqueous halo. The nose begins with notes of withered rose petals. Very reserved, with memories of wet clay soil, violets, honeysuckle and blueberries. Subsequently and very weakly appear aromas of bianchetta and boletus. On the palate retains that proverbial austerity that blends with the silkiness of Merlot. Smooth attack but determined, silky but well balanced by acidity. Also a good length and a real soul.
From a minor vintage, an excellent 14-year-old bottle that still has time for an aristocratic decline.
