Tasted by Nedder_travels_the_world on 1/16/2010 & rated 92 points: really liked how meaty this wine was. gritty rusty nail tannins. needs to be decanted (agree with previous tasting notes). shows with more fruit with time. (670 views)

Tasted by collinb227 on 12/5/2009 & rated 92 points: Nose: oak, syrah funk, vanilla
Palate: VEGETAL, coffee, smoke, sweet spice, blackberries
Finish: medium to firm tannins, cream component, 25 sec finish, w/ a briny aftertaste
pretty good stuff, although we didn't think so early on,
YOU MUST DECANT THIS STUFF FOR AT LEAST 2 HOURS
to be able to enjoy it (1535 views)
Tasted by sweeedfish on 11/29/2009 & rated 88 points: This bottle wasn't as impressive as the Bourriquot. Decanted for about 2 hours and still the nose was very vegetable heavy. On the palate I got some coffee and fruit, but it really never "worked' for me. Maybe the next bottle will be better in time. (1595 views)

Tasted by CdP in NYC on 11/24/2009: Dark as night, with aromas tightly bound into what could only be described as deep dark berry and new oak. Again, tight. Almost nothing but a wall of gripping tannins on the palate. Can't imagine anything too special emerging from this, but time will tell.

Nose: Currants, black raspberry, mocha and vanil, some meat and nice spice, excellent and nicely complex!

Tasted by gee0001 on 11/7/2009 & rated 90 points: This is a delightful wine that needs to breath and hour before full consumption. I tasted at opening, 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, and 1:30 hours (mostly because I drank the bottle). The wine continued to open with time in a room temperature at about 65 degrees. The nose changes as it releases due to the wines balanced complexity. The color is garnet to light ruby with soft edges. It is medium bodied and does not hit hard up front but takes time to envelope your taste buds. Flavors of spice, currant, black berries, a touch of meat, and a slight vanilla twist are pleasing. The tannins are balanced along with the alchohol. The finish is not long but gives you a slight dry touch. The wine should do nicely with a few years in the cellar (glad I have 3 more bottles). This is a nice wine. You can probably do better at a $35 - $40 + price point but I'm glad to have it as the vineyard is out of business. (2061 views)

Tasted by diacov on 11/6/2009 & rated 90 points: Big nose of blueberries, blackberry, something herbal. Really smooth on the palate with dark fruit flavors. A little too much oak and a bit hot prevent it from being a stellar wine in my opinion, but quite good. (2134 views)
Tasted by recarv on 11/6/2009 & rated 87 points: Vegetal on the nose, not particularly pleasant grape flavor as though it was interrupted by an overpowering flavor of which I cannot describe. This is the second bottle I've tried and came to the same conclusion and my guests agreed. We drank a Haven's Bourriquot along side and all preferred the Bourriquot. (1710 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 11/1/2009 & rated 90 points: Dark purple and rich nose of dark fruits, smoke and a floral component. Not as heavy on the palate as it appears in the glass. Well balanced but firmly tannic, it should cellar well for several years to come. Enjoyable. (2150 views)

Tasted by Meembo on 10/30/2009 & rated 88 points: A little funky with decent fruit. Can't say it was memorable or special, but it was nice. (1463 views)
Tasted by Bluedevil99 on 10/27/2009 & rated 91 points: Decanted 1 hr. Dark purple/indigo. Meaty, forest floor notes dominate the nose for me, also elements of sweet dark fruit and licorice. On the palate, creamy black and blue fruit up front, earthy on the midpalate with obvious oak on the finish. I like the concept here- I get a lot of the syrah on the nose and great big, lush cab fruit on the front palate. The syrah earthiness and acidity balances out what otherwise would probably be too much oak for my taste on the back end. A little too much funk on the nose for the wife. 90-91. (2326 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 10/21/2009 & rated 92 points: You haver to enjoy a delicious style of wine to enjoy the Black+Blue. This wine is pure Napa fruit, with great balance, tannins and fruit. This is not my norm, but boy is this good juice...AMM (2836 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
