Still is tight due to its Shiraz component. Was much better after 48 hour of spending time in decanter. I would age it another 5 years before I open up the second bottle. When opened up by air exposure, amazing wine.
This was pretty great. Drank like a dark-fruited Cab, with little Syrah characteristics beyond the darker fruit profile. Maybe more would have shown, but was gone within 90 minutes of opening. Holding up well. Good fruit, nice grip supporting but is beneath heft fruit. My sense is that this might start to show more heat if holding much longer, probably in a sweet spot.
This wine is absolutely singing! N: Lots of funky Syrah character, with black fruit and earth. P: Surprisingly fresh with blackberry, black raspberry and earth. Integrated tannin and very balanced acidity. Medium+ body. F: Medium+ with more dark fruit, mint, earth and a pleasant tannic backbone. Despite loving the '07 version (CH Lot 179), I wasn't a fan of this vintage until my final bottle. BTW, this showed very much like the fantastic '07 Lot 179. Very nice, but seemed to be very much alive and IMO, not fading. 91-92
