Dinner with Friends (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Decanted 4 hours in advance. Incredibly black-red inpenetrable colour. Nose is a gorgeous wave of pencil lead, black liquorice and high tones of black new leather boots....very Bordeaux First Growth. Palate is absolutely WOW! Totally seductive and takes you completely down Alice's rabbit hole. More precise descriptors seem superfluous. Unctuous, so rich, so total.....absolutely brilliant. Enormous length and thunderous resonance that just powers over you in rolling waves. Firm tannins....still decades ahead of it......but so so so good now. Gosh.
Drank from a 375 alongside an '03. Much more dark fruit and menthol on the nose than the '03. Needed about an hour to really smooth the mid to finish. Definitely some long life ahead of it - very well made.
A complete wine, deep, floral nose, earthy, spicey. Dark fruits on the palate, blackberry, gentle, delicate, persistent. Good acid balance keeps this wine interesting and lively. No sign of getting too old.
