  • Similar to previous bottle, but now showing a bit more age. To the extent that this bottle is typical, I'd drink remaining bottles over the next 5+ years. Cellared since original release.

  • Nose quite attractive, a little Sauvage and open. But palette doesn’t deliver. Slightly disjointed and a little oxidized. Short.

  • A fantastic wine and expression of Lavaux St-Jacques. Dense, concentrated, very young, with all of Maume's wildness to its mostly red fruits. Still very young -- ages ahead of it. On the table beside Mortet's LSJ from the same vintage, the others preferred the Mortet (which is also outstanding), but for me the savagery and concentration of the Maume won the day; but now that everyone's gone home and I've cleared the dishes, the Mortet has progressed even more and the Maume stayed at its same very high level. Cellared since original release.

  • Cellared since original release. When I visited in autumn 1993, most producers were despondent about the 1993 vintage -- Jacques d'Angerville, Hubert de Montille, and Jacques Seysses, to name but three. Two who were enthusiastic and understood what had happened were Lalou Bize-Leroy and Bernard Maume. Classic 1993 with precision and crystallinity to its red fruits, great complexity, and the mineralogy and energy of Lavaux Saint-Jacques. Just beginning to enter its period of great drinking.

  • I repeat much of my previous TN, namely medium/full bodied and linear palate showing bright Pinot fruit with a savoury tinge, grainy minerals, ivy, a little leather, very lively acidity, good tannic backbone and a long finish. However, the strange thing is that the rusty metallic streak now appears on the nose and the palate is rounder, cleaner and more elegant while retaining virility. Very good.
