Deep color. Strong fruit driven nose that is still very primary. A good bit of vanilla can be detected on both the nose and palate. In fact, the drying tannins of new oak are most noticeable on the bitter finish. This bottle has not harmonized and is a disappointment. (83)
Light ruby / brick color. Warm earthy fruit nose has great purity and heft - nice. This wine is aging beautifully - becoming silky yet retaining formidable flavor depth. Will never be elegant as the finish is really sauvage and a touch green. Nose is great but overall good not great burgundy. (91)
This was outstanding - great concentration and good length. Not very complex on the nose but more than compensates on the palate with lush red fruits that linger - a silky finish. This is power and elegance at the same time.
True ruby – a touch of lightening at rim. Woodsy, mushroom aromas mixed with youthful pinot fruit. Nicely complex for this stage in life. Palate doesn’t show as much though this bottle is significantly better than the first one from the case. Still coiled tightly, there is some expressiveness shooting out between the tannic core. Good extract here that needs only time. I am much more confident today that this will turn out well. The finish is fairly long with a mint note. (91+)
