  • Similar to my prior bottle. This ripeness of fruit is now turning to an earthy / stewy note that detracts from the wine and leaves an overall dirty impression. Drink up.

  • Opened but not decanted, unfortunately. Dark garnet-purple color. Nose of rose petals, tar, anise, earth. Rich dark plum, blackberry, tar, and brambles integrated with very firm tannin on the palate with a fair amount of acidity. Long finish of deeply-pitched black fruit, rock, and tar. A very good wine which would have shown much better after 2-3 hours in the decanter.

  • Dark red with a slightly lighter rim. Musk, tar and leather on the nose. Savory notes of soy and meat stock. Tannins are present but mature and almost resolved. Texture is velvety. There is fruit still at the core along with moderate acid. Finish is medium-long.

I did not find any overripe notes, on the contrary, it seemed more savory than sweet and the acidity kept it lively throughout the evening. This is at the peak of maturity for me. Lovely bottle.

  • Decanted for ~45 minutes and consumed over the next 3-4 hours. I suspect we are catching this one just past it's peak. The aromas are a bit muddled with some high quality black cherry, tar and nebbiolo spice that is marred with a hint of roasted/stewy fruit. Perhaps a signature of the warmer vintage? The palate had a similar muddled flavor profile. The palate was medium bodied with fine tannin and good acidity -- so no issues with the body. Slightly superficial in depth, but that's not my quibble with this wine ... it's that roasted/stew note.

  • Enjoyed this very much with lamb on Easter dinner. Silky smooth texture. Strong licorice notes on the nose that blew off over time. Very few tannins, acidity still vibrant. Very tarry with some cedar/herbal notes, flowers, orange rind, plums and raisins. Still drinking well, but I probably wouldn't hold much longer.
