I expected more from this as DeLille is such a solid producer. Good, but not great. The wine is big and fleshy, with lots of fruit though the tannins seem slightly disjointed and there isn't enough acid to keep it awake. The nose has notes of chocolate, mocha, game and blackberry, while the palate is a touch spicier and has more black fruits to it. Mint? Not bad, but I don't think it's worth the money (coming from an admitted WA Syrah lover.)
Big wine that really needed a solid two hours plus in a decanter to open up. Dark spicy berries at the core. Strong aroma of darker cocoa nibs, some dark rocky elements as well as a really gripping mid palate. The finish was a bit hot which is what kept this wine from crossing into truly great juice. It's interesting how this bottling doesn't posses the savory meaty quality I look for in Red Mountain Syrah.
