Pass the knife and fork, this has body! Loads of fresh fruit for a wine that is more than 10 years old and while high in alcohol (15%) it wasn't overpowering. This was my first bottle from Spinifex and I will certainly be trying some of their other offerings.
On opening this showed a rather stewed strawberry and plum character. Gained weight and complexity with air, developing sour plum, bay laurel, tar, baking spices. There is toasty oak in the background, but not obtrusive, and tannins are well integrated. I have mixed feelings about this overripe style of grenache-based blend, but in this case there is a lot of complexity and individuality to keep interest.
