I have generally been disappointed by 2005 Burgundy -- most I have had still seemed closed up -- but this was fabulous. A nice nose, promising dark fruits. Lots of dark cherry and black currants on the palate, intense, not too sweet, mixed with a hint of tar and leather, with a very pleasant, round finish.

Wine Cellar 2005 Burgundy tasting (Wine Cellar): Notes of coffee grinds, mocha with chocolate-covered coffee beans. There is some oak and a florality that enchants. Great depth of flavour; there is a raw, frozen berry fruit with a racy acidity that makes the wine upright, along with the roasted coffee beans that seem to perversely work. Whilst the tannins are aggressive on this powerful wine, the wine is intense and assertive and all the elements appear to sit well together at this point in time.

Dark purple, muted earth notes on the nose. Medium bodied, earthy, rich, well balanced long finish. Very nice, rich without being ripe.

Musty as an old bag of vacuum cleaner dust. Paired up well with roasted ostrich, though.
