Sweet potpourri, bitter plum, and a good deal of grip on the finish. This wine has plenty of energy left in the tank, I think. Second of two bottles from auction that showed similarly. Will really miss having this lovely, aged Nebbiolo in my cellar as a pleasant catch-all for weeknight food pairings.

Wine stored since release in a good cellar. Decanted 10 minutes before first glass; medium garnet color with some age, but not much, showing at the edges; big perfume of earth, rose petals, minerals, subtle Asian spice, sweet red fruits – a rather youthful nose; flavors were decidedly more secondary in nature, with tar, cedar and hints of raisin; medium-weight, silky smooth, decent acidity and tannins that show up at the end; medium length. This is an impressive Barolo normale that outperforms many riserva and single vineyard bottlings, at least in 2000, and was a real pleasure. If this has been stored very well you will have many more years ahead, but if you have any doubts about storage I would drink soon.

Decanted for only 30 minutes before first glass. This wine is not past its prime. Very enjoyable. Lots of prune and dark fruit and dusty leather. A little rustic, but not too much.

decanted 90 min. deep garnet, amber at rim; dusty brown spices, potpourri, prune plums stewed w/cardamom & coriander, wet earth on nose; middle weight; chewy red berries, dried cranberry, roasted black plums, newly-turned soil, fine raspy tannins & decent acidity on the medium finish. don't know where this stands on the modernist vs. traditionalist perspective but oak doesn't intrude, shows somewhat rustic & less than refined, but still pleasurable.
ricotta gnocchi w/pork ragout in "milk gravy", roasted broccoli, radicchio & the last red currant tomatoes

A second bottle from the same cellar. If anything this was even better, with slightly more definition and structure.
