Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 6 notes)

Tasted by wineismylife on 7/3/2009 & rated 90 points: WIML90

Tasted July 3, 2009.

Opened and glass decanted shortly before serving. Followed over about 2 hours. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, fairly clear hue. Nose of violets, boysenberry, plums and black berries. Flavors of boysenberry, black berries and a bit of black cherries over the medium finish. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink over the shorter term. (243 views)
Tasted by zimmy07 on 7/9/2008 & rated 92 points: really good wine. toasty oak with a massive core of currant, cedar and dark berries. Still very tannic, but had a sweet blueberry and vanilla finish. (399 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 5/22/2008 & rated 92 points: WIML92. Back on target. Just as good as the first bottle. Decant if opening now. Drink or hold. (470 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/5/2007 & rated 90 points: WIML90?

Tasted October 5, 2007. Not as good as the previous bottle. Decanted 1 hour. Purple color in the glass, slightly dusty looking. Nose was muted early on giving way to some aromas of balsamic, currants and white pepper. Fairly juicy flavors of boysenberry and black berries. Medium acidity, firm tannins, full body. Maybe holding a little longer will work some of the funk off the nose. (682 views)
Tasted by festiva on 11/24/2006 & rated 87 points: Opened 2 hrs before drinking. Big, thick red. Deep purple color with a ring of bright red around the edges. Lots of bright red fruits (plums & cherries), oak, & sage. Medium tannins. A little too green and alcoholic for my palate. The merlot in this wine gives it a little more class and structure than I expected. Average finish. Not a bad wine, but not a great one. (1114 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 6/30/2006 & rated 92 points: WIML92,PURPLE92,NOWA,WS87

Tasted June 30, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel tasting glass. Dark purple to crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of fresh flowers, sliced plums and crushed black berries. A little mocha as well. Flavors of plums, black berries, Bing cherries and licorice. Medium acidity, medium tannins. Medium bodied. I’d recommend holding at least one more year or be prepared for at least an hour in the decanter. 2008 might be a better choice. Based on the local retail price of $62.04 I’d say the value here is between agreeable and recommended. (1064 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
