Really an excellent wine, still drinking beautifully. Clearly mature and at its peak, any harsh Mourvèdre notes have softened. Went great with boneless leg of lamb for Easter dinner and then very good on its own after dinner. Oh to have another bottle!

Purchased in last year from excellent private cellar. Clear deep ruby to garnet with clearing but no bricking at rim. Decanted and after 15 minutes, rich nose of black cherry, raspberry generally black fruits, but not plummy stone fruits. Also with a pronounced but pleasant herbal tone with some earthiness supporting it. Not much in the way of meaty or leather notes that I had anticipated. Palate with good balance of acidity and tannins, soft entry, strong mid-palate but a rather short finish. After 30 minutes more, nose improved in intensity but not much change in palate.
Then came the food:seared antelope with fois gras, poached pear and onion relish. The consumption of the food with the wine led to the most drastic change in the character of the wine that I can recall. The fruit elements on the palate came into much sharper definition and deeper intensity (which change I've seen inumerable times in the past) but the finish which had been almost painfully short and abrupt suddenly deepened and lengthened into a very pleasurable 30+ second experience. I thought I was hallucinating, but then my wife commented on the exact phenomenon. Okay, so its finally opened all the way, I thought. So, after the meal, again tried the wine with a bit of the rich bread..........and the finish was like falling off a cliff. Too cool.
With the food, 92 points. As a stand alone, 88.
Is this change in the duration of finish something common which I've never really noted before? Frankly, if opened at home, I might well have opened another bottle for the meal and never seen the change.
