Clear and slightly darker than the RSV with which it was paired but perhaps a bit more bricked at the same time. If the ’94 RSV was a pleasant surprise this was a revelation and the WOTN. Close to perfect in the aromatic arena. Everything is there. Fully mature and simply open for business and that business has a lot of things for sale. Incredible range of aromatics that kept coming in different ways every time you returned to the glass. Flavors are more intense than the RSV but are still elegant, lilting and totally sexy. Tannins are still sticky but in a purely positive manner. It is really hard to do better than this IMO. There is nothing not to find appealing about this wine. I think La Tache from more intense vintages may have an advantage but this is a masterpiece on its own. Not sure if there is more development to be had but don’t see a down side in the near future.
Bottle nr: 11837; A level fill, ruby with orange rim. Apples, prunes, plums, tea and eucalyptus, even asian spices. Good acidity, leather touch, more evolved style, still fresh and very god texture, ripe tannins, nice balance, good length. Again, I am not quite convinced.....
Asian spice on the nose together with a mineralic character ala wet slate, some forest floor and leather. Although the nose was nice, the mouth did not live up. An extreme amount of acidity, making the wine seem very fresh, and at the same time a little astringent. Not as powerful as the 89, and it lacked the fruitiness that it should have had to balance it all out. Drink up.
(Dinner @ Terra, gently decanted) Aromatically - explosive perfumed aromas of rose and violet, light clove, black tea, and wet earth. On the palate this wine delivered as well with a very elegant medium body with very fine grain tannin and a earthy bing cherry, apple and soillike flavors. After 2 hours the palate was begining to fade a little on this wine as it started to slightly dry out but overall a fantastic experiance. Great wine for the vintage. 94+

(Romanée-Conti La Tâche) Medium mahogany in colour. The nose is little vegetal and mildewy to start, slowly mature red fruit emerges plus a little pine-needle and earth, unfortunately just a wisp of TCA too. It's not apparent on the palate, though there must be some diminution of the experience. Despite this there is a nice soft entry and a concentration that builds to a crescendo on the palate. In this company still a little subdued, certainly mildly corked.
