  • An unusual experience for a 10 year old California pinot. This was very youthful and dark red velvet in color, with a huge blast of black cherry on the nose and the palate, and bright high acidity. After settling down a little, it revealed a lovely mix of baking spices. Otherwise, the wine changed little over 3 hours or so of being open, and it could have held up a lot longer from opening or continuing to age in the bottle. To me, this was strongly resembled a top-level Barbera d'Alba or Chianti Classico, and it would have been a great match with a red pasta sauce.

La Rinconada has never aged as gracefully as the Sanford & Benedict pinot, but this was a very nice wine, albeit in an unusual and striking style.

  • Well-integrated oak with great nose and fruit. Smooth and delicious on the palate. Nice.

  • the aromatics are muted, but the wine is delicious on the palate - the taste of new oak has tempered somewhat, and blended with the fruit to create a very nice Pinot Noir drinking experience - the fruit has a spiciness to it that I associate with SRH pinot.
Not as good as the 99 but no slouch either.

  • Dinner w/ Friends (NW Suburbs Chicago): Very aromatic nose of ripe fruit, spice and earth. Full bodied Pinot with excellent depth and complexity. Well balanced acidity and tannins balance the fruit and provide a long, lingering finish. More Burgandian than alot of today's weaker pinots.

  • My last Sanford in the cellar and also last Rinconada. I get some light pepper, lots of cinnamon/baking spice and blue fruit on da nose. Silky, with mid-palate that is all raspberry flavor. Like eating a fresh raspberry with that acidic feel and red flavor running across the tongue. Finishes with some earthiness and a little bit of a dried out finish. What I wanted tonight was a Pinot I could enjoy with some age, easy going down, etc. This one won't age much longer and hits the spot. Curious how this tastes tomorrow.
