BODY: dark garnet color of medium to medium-deep depth; some bricking at the edges; looks youthful for its age; medium to medium-full bodied.
TASTE: gently tannic; creosote; rubber tire; alcohol is a little bit noticeable; marigolds; mint; pretty straightforward and somewhat unfocused; little bit of aged character / leather; probably best to keep holding --- and that would be with an eye towards melting some tannin and hoping this leans-out a bit into something with more grace --- but it is accessible now; it strikes me as a coin flip as to whether further ageing helps, but it's not exactly setting the world on fire now, so why not take the chance?

By the glass at Merenda. Fabulous nose, soaring, piercing notes of Rose. Classic tarry palate but with light, crunchy bright notes really lifting this. Fabulous by the glass with Osso Buco. Very enjoyable.

Tight middle aged nebbiolo. Nice qualities and Barolos always seem like they need a few more years.
