  • A dense wine with black cherry and umami flavors. Nice acidity, fruit slightly sour. As one would expect, it was excellent when paired with duck confit.

  • Slow-ox 2 hrs, tasted over 3 hrs
-med brick red with some clearing
-trace '04 taint, dark berry, black cherry, meaty/earthy/savory elements
-med+ acidity, signature Truchot power without weight, dark somber fruit mingled with herbal earthiness, slightly drying tannins on med length finish
-Ruchots always seems to be the most somber of the Truchot 1er crus and this is no exception. While not overly stricken with the '04 red Burg GMs/pyrazine taint it does seem to share rather rapid development with a lot of other '04s. Too early to say if this is in an early gradual decline or if it will re-emerge in a better place. For what it's worth this is a better showing than a bottle 2 years ago. Give it a DRAW for now.

  • Saturday Afternoon w/ the Claffee's (SoNo East Apartments - Chicago, IL): Slow ox'd for an hour, then decanted for two more hours before we began drinking. Incredibly earthy and rustic nose of mushroom, underbrush, red cherry, dry-aged beef and dried florals. The palate was beautiful - weightless on the palate but the flavor of an atom bomb. Great red fruit, dense earthy mushroom and damp earth comprised the palate. Hard to ask for much more from a 1er.
