Dark very ripe berries. Medium to light tannins. Medium mouth feel. Sustained finish. Needs at least 30 minutes to open. Almost no sediment. Paired well with vegetable quiche and grilled chicken. Still young at 19.

From magnum. Cork excellent condition. Lovely color, no obvious signs of age. Potent aromas. Sweet fruit and smooth texture in the glass. No sign of tiredness. Excellent bottle. Barring bottle variation, my last bottle should still be good over the next 3-5 years.

(Palazzo della Torre) Palazzo Magnum SPECIAL Dear Friends, Not really what I consider to be a Monday morning offer but I need to let them know on this ASAP so here goes... The last of our Allegrini magnum offers may be the most unusual - a limited bottling of Palazzo della Torre from the upcoming 2004 vintage, one that has the same hype as in Piedmont. The Amarone from 2004 is about as anticipated as the dried wine from the Veneto has been since some of the classic vintages of the mid-1970s (and that goes for the entire region - not just Allegrini). The Palazzo della Torre is a wine that has been good (even very good) in the past but never in the “wow” league - until 2004 (although it is the only Italian wine out of tens of thousands to appear in the Wine Spectator Top 100 five years in a row - a pretty grand achievement even if you discount the Top 100 list as marketing fluff). The wine is produced in a quasi-traditional manner that referments the wine with the fresh pressings of dried Covina and Rondinella (a la Amarone) but leaves out the Molinara, a varietal that is recognized for Amarone but they feel it adds a harshness to the wine. In 2004, this wine has to represent one of the very best buys in the Veneto - especially for a magnum. If I had to compare vintages, this most closely resembles the 1997 although the intensity and freshness supercedes its predecessors. This wine cascades over the palate with layered, dark, dried-berry fruit that is stacked up like bricks building a high-rise. The 2004 has not been reviewed yet so I tried to find an accurate review of the 1997 and while James Suckling gave it an ever higher rating (I believe he gave it a 92 or 93), in this case Parker is closer to the style. From a limited reserve, this set of magnums is being bottled on your behalf and sent to the US as an introduction to the 2004 vintage and its wonderful display of the dried style that makes Amarone so unique. While not technically an Amarone (due to its IGT status and absence of Molinara), it is a stylish and regal example that will be a very worthy addition to your cellar. For a party, this is a relatively cost-effective way to impress with format and the wine in the bottle - it has so much impact and satiny fruit that your guests are sure to leave well satiated. As an added bonus, there is certainly no hurry to drink this wine as it should last well into its 15th or 20th year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for top value and reflection of the 2004 vintage. EXTREMELY LIMITED in this magnum format: 2004 Allegrini “Palazzo della Torre” IGT 1.5lt Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy7760

Had paired with Porcini Mushroom Pasta at New Year's. Was by far the best pairing of the night and this wine was great. Everyone enjoyed.
