Was surprised as this didn't show much sign of being old. Still firm tannins and a really nice pencil lead and black fruit thing. Nice acidity. As it warmed up, it lost some of its structure and started to show a little bit of funk.
Double blind. Browning rim, licorice, some torrefacted coffee scents, dirt, raspberry, cranberry, still quite tannic and showing some rust too. Red cherry, rusty, rhubarb palate. Ungenerous at first but most improved with some steak.
This showed almost nothing at first, but after a while starting exhibiting a soft, round. light profile that still wasn;t too promising. But the wine gradually put on weight over the course of a few hours, and turned into a marvelous drink. Stunning aromatics and great balance of grace and power. Mature and showing beautifully.
