Pop/pour. Initially, this was overtly alcoholic on the back end of the palate, with a noticeable heat. Reminded me of the '04 Fiddlestix that I hated recently. Fortunately, the rest of the bottle evolved into something better. Whether that was because of the additional air time, or because of it's pairing with some spicy cajun pork chops, I'm not quite sure. Notes from after dinner -
On the nose, rich and resinous. Comes across as big and powerful. On the palate, more of the same, with the heat on this finish significantly diminished. After an hour open, this is still a heavy wine but in that context seems to find its balance. For me, I wouldn't need to hold these for a lot longer. Then again, this is my last bottle, so that's just a hypothetical. But given (for my tastes) my lack of success in aging high alcohol Pinots, it's a pretty safe bet for me.
This is a big wine for a pinot, and needs to be paired with something equally bold. Well spiced stuff off the grill, anything other than beef, would work for me.

Still very juicy despite its age. I am not disappointed I drank it but I think it had several years of enjoyability ahead of it. I don't know well enough how well California Pinot Noir ages or if it would have taken on more nuances with more bottle age. it was delicious now and if it were to get better, then it would be very impressive.

Notes from memory: stood this bottle up for a couple of hours and let it warm slightly from cellar temp. Nose of earth and lots of cherry and red fruits and just a little oak, big flavors of red and dark fruits, tannins, nice acidity. Everything was big, but seems to be in balance. Dark color but still translucent. Enjoyed this wine with a meal.
