From magnum, lot 196 (on the other end of the label, it said 98 mag was made from thia bin). Dunno, color is bright garnet, read the review on cellar-tracker made me worried when popping the cork. But the aroma out of the bottle confirmed the provenance, pristine. Plenty of cherries and red fruits as Griotte should be. Hint of spice too. Sweet and fresh on palate, tannin almost velvet, mild length but very lively, perfumed and elegant. Exactly the Griotte I adored. Lucky !

Ponsot Tasting with Alexandre Abel (Chicago, IL): Stewy and tired, but it did seem to pick up a little bit of life with some air. Lots of brown tones here as well as a discordant vein of acidity that just wouldn't let up. This has probably seen better days. Unpleasant sour things here. Get rid of these.

From magnum. Dark color and well stored, but this was lifeless. Unanimous around the table this was the worst bottle of the night. No fruit, no bitterness, no nothing. A hard shut down '96?
