  • Wish I would have popped this 5 years ago. Slightly darkened but not sherried/oxidized. Fruit has faded.

  • Nice balance, slightly "port" like in sweetness due to its age, but not overwhelmingly so.

  • Served with cheese - and what a good match. Intense, concentrated fruit, razorblade citrus notes, great minerality and extraordinary precision; great length, great balance, and a very good choice to serve this at the end of the meal.

  • Well, this is clearly over the top, or it is again an example of champagnes with too much air so that they oxidize too early. Deep yellow, almost amber in colour. Extreme nose of nuts, sherry-like tones, toasted bread, almost on the "gone" side. Still fresh in the mouth. creamy mousse, tannic feel to the finish. Not much fruit except for some very old red apples. Mostly nuts and sherry. A disappointment.

(Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Avize) Light medium golden yellow color; honeyed, mature, dried apricot, mineral nose that's a little sherried; intriguing attack of very tart apricot, more focused than the other '96 Jacquesson, mineral and kumquat palate with medium acidity; medium finish 92+ pts. (a little bit oxidized compared to that last bottle of this that I had)

(Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Avize) Light yellow color; ginger and lovely, ripe and tart stonefruit, ripe cherry nose with a floral/spice element; lacy, tart entry opening to focused but complex tart lime, citrus and ginger palate with good acidity; medium-plus finish
