A quick decant. Ruby, hints of bricking, pronounced legs, still youthful looking. Nose is a little dusty, black olive, hints of pickled cabbage and then dark, blackcurrant fruit. The palate is big, lots of ripe blackcurrant fruit, some black olive, tannins integrated, alcohol noticeable and a shortish finish. A little underwhelming.
Still an impenetrable dark ruby. It needs a decent decant and at least one hour airing. Then rewarded with a briary black fruited wave. An earthiness. Plenty acidity and big but no longer rough tannins. Medium length. Bit of a bruiser but it carries it off. And actually seemed to have life ahead though a journey I will no longer be part of. Last bottle.
