Rusty in color around the edges but attractive dark cherry overall. Some prune, leather and autumn leaves on nose. A bit flabby but tannin and acidity holding some balance. Medium finish. Well past its prime but it is still worth an 89.

As suspected, this was nearing the end of its useful life. Beginning to get a little acidic on the aftertaste. Still some nice cherry and plum fruit, tannin are pretty much gone. Nose is muted, a little fruit but absence of any interesting secondary nuances. Other bottle, had six month ago, performed much better (88). Oh well...

Weekly tasting group #083; Vertical of 8 vintages Coudoulet de Beaucastel plus a few extra's (@ DJ): A bit bretty in the bouquet, cherries, garrigue. Ok balance between acidity and sweetness. No more notes, except that it was the least attractive Coudoulet of the evening.

Needs food. Holding together pretty well, although clearly will only last another couple of years. Drink up!

Wine Education Service - Château de Beaucastel (Notting Hill Gate): Aroma of figs.
Good balance, pleasant, not for keeping.
