CV. Colour of burgundy! Pale at the rim, but otherwise consistent. Looks younger than her years. Nose is blackcurrant and boysenberry. Hint of wood and sweetness emerges on nosing. In the mouth this first hits with a little acid, but settles almost immediately into smoothness - like cranberry juice with much less sharpness. Seems perfect for drinking now. Very easy to drink. The flipside of the smoothness is that the length is not great, but it's not half bad either.
A really underrated Burgundy producer, I decided to pop one of these open and see how she was. Color was deep ruby. Nose was a bit closed at first, with red fruits prominent, cranberry, raspberry, and a little strawberry. On the mouth, she was surprisingly young. Granted this was only 15 years old in an excellent vintage, it was almost as if it were bottled this year. Palate is fruit forward with light red fruits and cranberry. Starts to give way to some earthy tones, but the acid and tannins interrupt it a little before it arrives. After about a half hour, they settled down and the wet, dark soil flavors began coming out. Overall, it’s an enjoyable Burgundy, and a steal for the price. I enjoyed the 1995 a little more, but this has the potential to age for decades more. Looking forward to 2025 and trying another.
Decanted just enough to get the sediment out and enjoyed over the next several hours.
