Very complex nose with some licorice, beautiful floral lift (plenty of violets), garrigue notes, olive, ripe plum (quetsch) and a nice mix of red/dark fruits. Reductive, it needs a lot of air. Light metallic note on the finish which disappear with time. Med+ body, balanced, palate is matching the nose with a long finish. This has a very promising future. (43 views) |

89 pts (509 views) |
| | Tasted by Bodge on 10/29/2009 & rated 81 points: Something slightly unpleasantly metallic on the nose. Beginning to show some Barral flavours but will benefit from time I think. Tasted again a couple of days later it had significantly improved - seems to have plenty of stuffing. (523 views) |

| | Tasted by slanum on 9/8/2009: A big disappointment. Barral seems capable of making exciting wines (e.g., the 2001 vintage of this), but consistency appears to be a problem. As far as I know there was nothing wrong with the raw materials in this vintage but this is plain and simple Southwestern French red wine, with a slightly soapy taste. Neither wild, sauvage, nor the least bit interesting, this is a humdrum effort that I bought too much of. (664 views) |

| | Tasted by nietzschephilosopher on 5/29/2009 & rated 84 points: Very strange. Smelled and tasted very briny. I won't be coming back to this but it was drinkable. Also, a little flabby. (968 views) |
| | Tasted by pbjosh on 5/25/2009: This bottle opened with a strong whiff of green olive / brine that was a bit much, even for me. Initial impression that it was not up to snuff with the 04. However, with time the (quite fresh) fruit fattens up some and the olive note, while still present, diminishes some. This isn't as pure or lifted as the 04 has been for me, and I don't anticipate it ever being as good to my tastes, but I am faithful that 6 months or a year should bring this around to a more enjoyable place. I'll revisit then. (1032 views) |

| | Tasted by WetRock on 4/3/2009: Odd wine that is hard to put a finger on. Upon pouring there is a strong sweet flower aroma but that seems to fade leaving some Provencal herbs, roasted fruits and meat as well as some rocky minerals. Palate is a wee bit tart with a lean feel, strong acidity but a touch of lingering heat on the back of the palate and late acting tannin. Some aged roasted meat flavor with notes of fig and cherry. While I like interesting complex rustic wines I'm not sure the pieces add up to a worth while whole here. Definitely for the palate who appreciates old school rustic animal wines. I could see this getting better with age if the complexities integrate into a polished easy whole. (1159 views) |
| | Tasted by nyman on 3/8/2009: Weird, last time we drunk this wine we really liked it. Now we find it not so pleasant, weird acidity and some unpleasant and undefined taste. Bottle variation? (1209 views) |

| | Tasted by Rupert on 1/23/2009 & rated 89 points: A really nice surprise - olive fragrance, and olives on the palate too, the fruit quite sweet, but not at all jammy, some grainy tannins, but very soft - lovely (1262 views) |

| | Tasted by nyman on 1/3/2009: Some oak, lots of red berries and quite some tannins. Feels like more alcohol than the specified 13%. Good wine for a nice price. (1300 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 1/1/2009 & rated 90 points: layers of full, dark fruits, peat, earth, spice, bit acidic at first, but diminished overtime, complex, surprised with new flavors emerging, long finish, wonderful rustic wine (1283 views) |
| | Tasted by peblin on 12/4/2008: Weird wine. Lots of licorice, dark berries, red berries, spices, "dust", stables. Good acidity but with a weird mouth feel - wine filled the mouth like a marshmallow on steroids yet didn't seem to touch the tongue? This can't be the wine that's gotten rave reviews - either bottle variation, some flaw, or expectations-clouded mind. Not bad - actually really good, but still... Looking forward to next bottle. | | Tasted by mikdal on 10/17/2008 & rated 88 points: Tight on the nose. Not impressive immediately after decanting. However, after 2 and 4 hours in the decanter things start to happen. Lots of blackcurrents, cherries and "funk". Quite tannic but after 4 hours the wine became more soft and easy drinkable. A very good wine, especially with food. Had it with sirloin steak and it was a perfect match!!. Leave a few years in the cellar or decant for 3-4 hours. Could reach 92+ in the future. (1391 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 10/11/2008: Some Underwhelming Languedocs (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Medium ruby. Complex nose with red fruits and spice. Unfortunately, skinny, with a tannic finish that swamps the modest fruit present. (1427 views) |
