-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hours --
NOSE: "dark"; strong cigar note; hint of red berry jam.
BODY: medium-full bodied; dark, rust-garnet color of great depth --- shows just a little age on the color.
TASTE: strong raisin flavor; "dark"; still tannic; long finish, with flavors of raisins and black licorice ; alc. pokes-through a bit; probably best to Drink Now and over the next few years. Somewhat surprised at how well this showed, considering this is a grocery store wine: I did buy and cellar from release. It is a big wine, but it's not terribly overblown like many CdPs. Gut impression score: high 80's, *maybe* 90.

I was warned (also here) that maybe this Chateauneuf was over the top, but it wasn’t, it was excellent. Ripe mature aroma’s in the nose and soft, concentrated and smooth integrated juice balanced by the time. Meaty, prunes, figs, cloves and leather/old books. Classic and mature C9dP made out of Grenache (80%), Syrah (10%) and Mourverdre (10%). 14.5% Alc

Oog: Transparant, vol, tuile-oranje, kleine doorzichtigheid, matige meniscus en viscositeit, veel licht gekleurde tranen. Neus: Vlierbes, gestoofde pruim, gedroogde vijg, rozijnen, tabak, karamel, vanille, zachte kruiden, chocolade, oud leder. Mond: Zuren + 1/2, molligheid en tannine 0, vlak en evenwichtig met een matige afdronk van 4 - 5 sec. Deze wijn is over de top en mag niet meer bewaard worden.

(Clos d' la Oratoire CdP) 3.0 Liter Dear Friends, This offer was inspired by a customer that asked for a half dozen 3.0lt bottles of red wine that were somewhat “affordable” but had to be top-class (for his daughter’s wedding). The words “affordable” and “3.0lt” do not normally go hand but maybe this offer will serve to change that notion. I’ve been in the mood to celebrate lately and nothing says special occasion like a 3.0lt bottle of wine. The pouring process alone makes a festival out of a small occasion. It was my birthday last week but I was too busy to do anything - maybe one of these with a group of friends this weekend? In my search for a large format bottle of wine that had character and promise (as well as a low price), the trail led me to this - a serious Chateauneuf du Pape. This is a pretty crazy deal on a limited, hand-bottled set of 3.0lt bottles being sent directly from the Domaine. If you enjoy southern Rhone wines, this 2005 will add spice and intensity to your cellar and the price is more than right (about the same as at the cellar door). EXTREMELY LIMITED - VERY RARE ONE SMALL SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the source: 2005 Clos de l'Oratoire Chateauneuf du Pape 3.0lt (WA90-92) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone9110
