Integrated and at its peak... Black fruit, tar, pastrami, iron, pepper, smoke, touch of petrol. Sweet tannins, deep texture, long finish. A delicious wine. We drank several different Sadie Family wines last summer in South Africa and they were well made, interesting, world class wines. The whites, blends of old vine unusual varieties are well worth looking for as well.
Andra gången jag provar Eben Sadies underbara Columnella. Kraftig doft av läder och söta bär. Smaken en lång med vissa tanniner. På topp nu och något år framåt. Looking forward to next bottle. Well done!
Decanted 1 hour. Ripe, masculine nose, blackberry, acetone, fruitcake, nutmeg, cracked black pepper. Nice mix of sweet fruit and spice. Palate is full-bodied, complex, and impressively balanced, juicy, ripe strawberry and blackberry, a mineral and acid streak in midpalate, good dry tannins on the finish. In its prime but will last several years. Drink now-2020.
Underwhelming (though coming after a 3 decades of La Chapelle flight and before a Margaux and Latour...). The paper wrapping showed some signs of seepage but cork was dry and clean. Very Northern Rhone nose with the addition of significant black pepper. A little disjointed and with some bitter savory notes this seems a little shut down or the seepage was real and caused this. Note sounds worse than it was, fruit was nice and pepper was dominant. I'll wait a year before opening another.
