  • Amazing experience with a 45 year old wine! Low shoulder fill. The cork was toast.. it came out in pieces and necessitated decanting through cheesecloth. Moderate cherry color with browning and light at the edges, but hardly truly "old" looking. Once it opened up (1 hour in decanter) there was an intoxicating nose of cherry, currant, smoke, underbrush, walnuts, minerals, leather, herbs... did I miss anything? :) Absolutely mouthfilling on the palate-- I would have guessed this was a 10-15 year old Burg. Beautiful sweet rasberry, currant, herb, minerals and smoke play off each other, and the fruit is "mouthwatering" with good acidity and soft tannins. Mouthfilling cherry and underbrush/smoke on the finish. Nice surprise given the condition of the bottle and the age of this wine. Who says Burgs don't age well?
