I decanted and screen filtered to remove sediment but there was not very much. I started drinking after 20 min when the nose seemed to open up. A pretty and complex bouquet with cherries, strawberries, vanilla, and other hints that I can't quit identify.
Far less interesting on the pallet, but respectable. One of the better gift bottles that I have received, but that does not say very much.

Had again with butterfly leg of lamb. Improved slightly over the past year. Kept it in the fridge (half of a bottle, using vacuvin) for a week while away and was still excellent.

I worried that this bottle might be past its prime based on others' recommended drinking dates, but I found it quite lively, with a good deal more character than many merlots I've had. Garnet tending toward brick red. Nose was a tad hot but interesting and earthy. Balanced acidity and mature fruit; medium-to-full body; tannins evident but not distracting. Very nice, wonderful accompanyment to a balsamic pork roast.
A fruit-forward and very smooth Merlot. A very good food wine - it paired nicely with braised short ribs over garlic mashed potatoes. The only detraction is that at $23 per bottle - I would have expected a bit more complexity. Wine Enthusiast rated this an 85 - but I would score it a bit higher.
