  • Opened 2 hours before consumption. Delicious. Lighter red/brown not unexpected for age. Black pepper- classic Zeigler. Very enjoyable.

  • A priveleged "Joe's Drinkin' Buddies" purchase from this past summer (man, you hafta join and get their older vintages from theiir liberry! At...like $25 bones, dude!). 14.1%, per label. Popped and poured with primo-superior Prime Sirloins from Gelson's (who needs Flannery when we can walk in at any time and get these for $26/lb?).

Musk-rose color, followed up immediately with a classic aged Zin nose: prevalence of (older) cherry infusion, bit of oak on the nose as well, but begging me to sip...

Almost mild at this point (compared to younger Zins), the distinctive Swan flavors are there, reflecting the nose. The acid backbone balances off the fruit nicely. This is seemless and rewarding for a 12-year old Zin.

It was stating "I am here, there's no need for me to yell at you like my young bro's." A valuable lesson in aging Zins...of my favorite Swan vyd *but I still like the higher-alc Lone Pine offfering for "other" occasions, like summer BBQs). A great Zin for a winter's meal...or just by the fire.
