Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 13 notes)

Tasted by Diablito on 12/30/2008 & rated 90 points: Very concentrated. Needs decanting and time. Very good effort, however. (491 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 12/24/2008 & rated 90 points: very nice plum and currant with spice and nice finish (452 views)
Tasted by ocattorney on 9/12/2008 & rated 89 points: Different from last bottle. More fruit on the nose with some mint. Nice dark fruit with a hint of blueberry and oak. Nice spice finish that is lasting. Great QPR. (489 views)
Tasted by cgatesman on 8/20/2008 & rated 90 points: (467 views)
Tasted by Kdawg on 7/15/2008 & rated 88 points: nose: nice earthy tones that start to unwind into notes of cherry, blackberries, cranberries, and smoke tones

taste: good dark flavors of black cherry, blackberry, smoke, and unfortunetly some heat on the mid palate

overall: Really good dark flavors that are well in balanced and have a bit of depth to them. Not overly complex but a really good wine nonetheless and has a nice black cherry attack that gives up a smoke and blackberry finish (683 views)
Tasted by cobbpa on 7/15/2008 & rated 88 points: Champagne & Sushi (Coast Sushi, Chicago, IL): Earthy, bretty on the nose. It doesn't smell bad, but I feel like it covers up some fruit that may be underneath. Tasting brings about nice dark fruits and a rich, enjoyable texture. Finishes with a some fruit, interesting spice, and tannins that creep in and become more gripping with air. (674 views)
Tasted by Seanr7 on 7/9/2008 & rated 90 points: This is the 4th bottle of the 5 I bought and they all have been a great wine. More reserved then most new world Syrah's yet still very new world. WS says "drink by 2008" but I think this will go for several more years before it starts to go downhill. Dark red/purple color, nose is a bit Earthy and fruity while in the mouth this wine has plenty of dark fruit (cherry, blackberry...) and spice. Medium mouth feel with a great finish that lasts for 30+ seconds. 30 minutes in a decanter does this wine well. 89 - 90 PTS. (660 views)
Tasted by ocattorney on 7/7/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice deep color. Sour dark fruit on the nose with some spice. Medium bodied wine with blueberry and black berry fruit. Dry finish that lasts. Great QPR. (680 views)
Tasted by markdrisc on 7/4/2008 & rated 90 points: (559 views)
Tasted by Siegel75 on 6/21/2008 & rated 89 points: Very smooth with a nice spice aspect to the finish. Drank with a grilled london broil. (683 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 6/2/2008 & rated 90 points: Plum and spice and a nice finish, very good qpr (877 views)
Tasted by Seanr7 on 5/23/2008 & rated 90 points: This is a great bargin for less then $13 a bottle. Color is a deep dark Ruby red, on the nose a bit earthy, with plenty of dark fruit and a bit of spice. In the mouth this is not your over the top Aussi Syrah I have become used to but is a more old world reserved Syrah. Flavors of Plum, cherry, and blackberry along with a spicy finnish that lasts for 30+ seconds. With the amount of tannins this wine has I think this will drink well over the next 3-4 years.  Tasted by CycleFreak on 4/9/2008 & rated 89 points: Rich, dark purple color. Builds the anticipation of smelling / tasting it.
Like some other Chilean wines I've tried, it leans a bit more toward old-world style. However, this one has just a hint of that Frenchy-barnyard aroma. The rest is fruit, earth, mineral and pepper.
The taste is great and completely belies the low price. It is more earthy, forest-floor than the Aussie shiraz, but it has a great quality flavor that is nearly gritty, bit of tobacco (I guess). The typical fruit flavors of Syrah (jammy blackberry, cassis and a little cherry) come through mid-palate and then the finish is pepper-spice and long / pleasant.
This is a fantastic QPR wine and the only reason I did not give it 90+ is that it lacks some complexity. (861 views)
