Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 8 notes)

Tasted by Spencer on 10/19/2009 & rated 90 points: Fully resolved, balanced, elegant. I would drink this up over the next several years. (286 views)
Tasted by Magnolian on 4/14/2008 & rated 91 points: Decanted 60 minutes. Dark purple hue with no bricking. Concentrated berry nose with elements of graphite and tobacco. Rich cab flavors with nicely layered complexity. Medium-long finish. Remaining tannins were not fully intergrated, but much smoother on day 2. Suggest at least a 90-min decant for now. Very nice wine but not as complex as the outstanding 1996. (654 views)
Tasted by Mark on 4/6/2007 & rated 90 points: In the last year, this wine has seemed to open up and I think it showing at it’s best. Clearly the best Andrew Will from that vintage (although I still do like the 1997 Klipsun Merlot). We bought Vivian and Nicolas a half case of this wine for their wedding, and we opened one up for dinner when they were in town. Fifteen minutes of decanting is require and forty-five certainly helped. The Sorella stayed open and drank well for the next four hours. I don’t have any specific tasting notes, but this bottle seemed a little close to the vest and restrained from the previous bottles that I opened. I think this Sorella is drinking very well now and is at it’s optimal drinking window. (1321 views)
Tasted by greenblanket on 7/2/2006 & rated 92 points: This really is very Bordeaux like. This wine was enjoyed with appetizers over about 90 minutes. As it opened the nose developed graphite, rose petal florals and red fruit elements. The palate continued the red fruit along with tobacco and sleek minerals and earth. The finish is still quite tannic. This bottle was professionally stored and under these conditions I've got to believe that this wine still has a long ways to go. Lovely. (1696 views)
Tasted by Spencer on 4/11/2006 & rated 89 points: Not the best bottle of this wine that I've had. Although still very good, it came across as a bit hot and one-dimensional to me, which is quite a contrast to other bottles I've enjoyed over the last several years. (2118 views)
Tasted by Mark on 1/16/2006 & rated 90 points: The wine needs at least sixty to ninety minutes. A Floral, fragrant and textured nose, which combines both mineral elements and some ripe sour cheery fruit. It’s still tannic, most noticeable on the very end of the finish which has a sharp, austere finish. Overall still tight and still needing some time. (2258 views)
Tasted by Eric on 12/25/2004 & rated 91 points: Upon first opening this exuded tobacco, earth and graphite, a dead ringer for a bottle of Bordeaux with a little age. At first this was austere, showing mainly mineral with very little fruit. However, after about 60 minutes this started to open up to show a bright, floral element and tight yet pure notes of raspberry and tobacco. The most distinct element is the striking acidity. Four hours later this is still very tight yet quite pretty and well balanced. I am surprised at how young this is drinking, nowhere near maturity yet just starting to gain some secondary nuance.  Tasted by markelln@bellsouth.net on 1/17/2004 & rated 90 points: at Mark's Las Olas w Steve Joyce, and Greg Rapoport. Double decanted in morning.I like very much; thought = to 97 Beringer Private Reserve. (2597 views)

Andrew Will Winery was started in 1989 and is owned by Chris Camarda.

The winery was launched out of a love for wine that Chris had developed while working in the restaurant trade for almost 20 years. Named after the Camardas’ son Will and nephew Andrew, Andrew Will has been a major contributor to the success and notoriety in recent years of Washington State wines. Initially, the winery consisted of 900 square feet of rented industrial space in Seattle.

In 1994, the Camardas moved to Vashon Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, where they built the present winery. The fruit however comes from the mainland, across the Cascades in Eastern Washington, where all the significant vineyards lie in the rain shadow of the mountains.

Klipsun and Ciel du Cheval vineyards are adjacent on the loam and gravel soils of Red Mountain but produce different styles of wine. Klipsun makes massive, opulent wine to appreciate early. Ciel du Cheval possesses a slightly more tannic structure and great ageing potential.

Sorella is a classic Bordeaux blend using 60% Cabernet Sauvignon from Mercer Estate, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot from Ciel du Cheval.

In 2003, the composition was 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot.

About red wine
The variety Red Bordeaux Blend on CellarTracker implies any blend using any or all of the five traditional Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. As such, this is used worldwide, whether for wines from Bordeaux, Meritages from California and Canada, some Super-Tuscan wines etc.
