  • Northern Rhones at Collin's (Chicago, IL): Orange-gold in colour. Intense nose of caramel, orange peel, tropical fruits, sugar and honey. Full bodied and very sweet with more honeyed orange and tropical fruits flavours following in the mouth with good acidity keeping it from being syrupy or cloying. Finish is long and rich.

  • I brought a bottle of this to dinner on Saturday with Allred, Enoselsa and our wives. Emmerich Knoll is one of the giants of the Wachau valley of Austria. My wife and I visited this estate in the town of Unterloiben back in 2005 but did not have the good fortune of trying one of their tba's. Knoll is a traditional producer whose wines often take a while to develop. I bought this on sale earlier this year for $37/500ml (marked down from about $80). This TBA is only produced in the best vintages when weather permits. A majestic dessert wine which can be summarized in 2 words: balanced and intense. I knew this was a classic from my first sip. Amazingly powerful wine with tropical flavors that swirl on the palate. Beautifully balanced. Not cloying or heavy or syrupy. Striking acidity that stings the tongue and allows the all that rich fruit to be taken in. Huge finish that goes on and on. I have one more but wish it was a dozen. This could still improve. 96 points.
