a lot of energy left and still a little tight. opened 1 hour ahead and think the wine could have had more air even. very much in balance. more a very reliable work horse than a sparkling ballerina. but a very good wine with a lot of life left.

Ponsot GC theme'd dinner. 5 of us gathered for this, and wines were served single-blind (as we knew our own wines) across 2-flights with 2 wines in the 1st, and 3 wines in the 2nd. For whatever reasons (maybe knowing/understanding which vintage is drinking vs. what we have/own in our cellar), we eventually found out that the 5 of us zoomed into/brought 3 vintages (‘97/‘00/‘02) of the same wine - which is Ponsot's CdlR.
This bottle (mine) of '00 was served in the 2nd-flight, with the first bottle of '00 already served in the 1st-flight. To me, they showed similar; In fact, for the 1st flight - I had previously guessed '96/'97 & '00/'01 for the bottles of '97 & '00 respectively. This had tea-leaves, spice, dark-fruits/cherries, just slight sous bois (similar to the last bottle I had ~a year back from the same case) & earth/iron. Kinda tighten up a bit with air. Expect this to get more delicious (like how the '97 showed in this session) as more complexity sets in with more ageing...

The wine is still very clean, color is ruby with no rim discoloration. The nose is on red fruit, cola and wet forest musk...in the mouth the taste is very balanced, alcohol is medium, nice acidity and the attack is on small red fruits. The middle of the mouth brings nice acidity and the finally is beginning to show secondary and tertiary tastes. Some mushroom, truffles and wild herbs. The length is very long. Not the best CdlR from Ponsot that i had but for a 2000 he hit it out of the park

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Very ripe and bready notes, every more mature than the others in the flight but still well drinkable, not oxidative, cinnamon, sweet spices.

Black tea all the way... smells and taste like black tea with still a fair amount of fruit. I think this is peaking here.
