  • Drinking beautiful and still very alive. Color does not show its 22 years and certainly not its nose that is so expressive right away.

  • Once again, a big hit with my wine group. Showing spices and a long finish, this was a treat for all of us.

  • Still lively and showing lots of tertiary development.

  • Opened but not decanted for over an hour before pouring. Part of a wine dinner at an Italian restaurant and the unanimous group favorite.

  • Opened the night prior drinking.
Level was quite low for a '01, the cork was completely soggy, probably seeping due to bad cellaring.
Nevertheless the wine was okay, deep dark garnet, bricking rim, viscous and with slow legs.
Elegant complex nose, crème de cassis, dried prunes, macerated black cherries, espresso, cigar box, old leather, burnt cinnamon, lead pencil, forest floor, dried mushrooms, vanilla, dried rosemary and rose petals..
Mouthwise the wine has a medium body, medium acidity and medium plus minerality, resolved tannins, very nice concentrated.
There's still some black and red fruits, roasted cocoa, burnt tobacco, black pepper, dried herbs, forest floor, very well rounded and bordeaux-ish.
The wine is really silky and smooth, with a nice structure yet and a wonderful finish.
Alcohol is very well integrated and so the oak.
Overall a very nice experience but i believe this particular bottle had already passed its peak, due to seepage and storing problems.
I think a well stored '01 Tignanello would have been much less developed after 22 years, so if you have a good bottle probably you can wait 3/5 years from now, this particular bottle was a little tired, could easily be a 94 instead of 92.
