Very green (green beans) and stinky on the nose, with some gentle spice in the background (red licorice). Light bodied on the palate. Tasted bitter, thin, and weedy. Even more surprised this is an '05 than I was about the Duband. I did not like this.

  • A touch acidic at first, then stewed, then open......then 4 hours later a hint of musk and cork. Damn it - I thought it was a slightly dumb bottle until the cork taint crept out - by which point most of the wine had gone. A shame because the underlying ingredients are very impressive.

  • Initial color very light but big legs for 13% ABV. Very smooth palate, well integrated tannins and acidity. Classic Pinot from France. Not over extracted just a very good wine. Very smooth and not very complex when just popped and poured but very balanced. Nose somewhat muted so I'm leaving it to breathe and will re-attack later tonight or tomorrow. More to come.

Day two: This wine didn't get great press and at $50+ maybe justifiably so but it was fantatic both days and even better day two with all its character coming out in terms of fruit and balance. Went GREAT with duck confit. In terms of quality I would move to 91 but it may still be lacking that 'it' factor to push it to 92+.
