  • Method: from the fridge; opened maybe an hour ahead of time; Grassl Mineralite

    Look: pale gold

Nose: pineapple, baked pear, nutmeg, beeswax, light creek water

Palate: pineapple, roasted marshmallow, baking spices/nutmeg, honey, salt; long finish of minerality, ginger, honey; medium+ sweetness; high, electrifying acidity; the wine took on a wonderfully creamy texture as it warmed up

Overall thoughts: Wow! This blew everyone away with how expressive, concentrated, complex, balanced, and long it was. Honestly -- everyone took their first sip, and made a "wow" face as they reclined back in their seats to take it all in. It really checks off so many boxes. It really makes an impact with its power, yet it's very much in balance, with excellent acidity creating a nice tension. 96 - 97 points. Excellent wine!

  • Decanted from 375ml and drank slowly over the evening. Gorgeous and continued to develop. Excellent richness, precision, freshness, and lift. Passionfruit and fresh peach up front with a creamy concentration. Palate fans out to raspberry and blueberry as it transitions to the finish. Complex and deep in a way that's difficult to describe, even for a Riesling geek. Helmut Donnhoff is known to tolerate some botrytis on his eiswein which is often frowned upon, but this is incredible and the best winemaker in Germany can do what he wants. Her highness Jancis Robinson said this is perhaps the best eiswein she ever tasted, and it certainly is for me.

  • Golden yellow. Expressive nose of citrus, honey, tropical fruits. This is enormously concentrated and fresh at the same time. I like this much more than Sauternes as there remains a higher freshness in these Rieslings. Amazing!
