Light in color, light in alcohol but sooo many flavors. The nose is a complex mix of violets, roses and allspice, the palate is pure cherry with wonderful tartness.

Light colored, a soft and floral nose of spices and red fruits, with a palate of damp earth. clove, spice and a svelte and smooth aftertaste. A fascinating wine.

Always sad to see the last one go, but at least it went out in style. Still showing beautifully, with all the lift, gossamer texture, bright red fruits, and clean earth I could ask for.

(Puffeny Arbois "Vieilles Vignes") The 2003 Arbois VV is a blend of Poulsard, Trousseau & Pinot Noir. The nose has many different spices (orange rind, cinnamon, clove) and a high toned sweet floral thing going on. Great nose. Complex and original. The palate is soft yet rich and has nice acidity with suave tannins. Seems a bit closed at this point and could benefit from further aging. The finish is tangy, salty and slightly warm which is to be expected from a 2003 in France. The warmth is more like a CDP ripe vintage warmth. I don't believe it detracts. If you have these, all four of you, tuck away for five years and then this should be cruising.

Spanish Natural Wines with importer Jose Pastor (Terroir, San Francisco): Lovely! So fresh and vibrant. I can't believe how good this is for the vintage. More evidence that paradoxically, Puffeney did better in '03 than in '05.
