  • Lovely, delicate Riesling fruit, apples, peaches, citrus, slate and stone. Didn't experience the diesel effect noticed by others. Popped and poured, and fine from the outset. The lasting impression was the delicacy of the fruit and minerality and not racy acidity. Paired well with a Robiola a due latte cheese.

  • As an absolute old auslese fanatic, I still enjoy well-made older spatelsen. Zilliken is among the best. And as I found with the 93, one needs to decant or wait 15 minutes for the power to emerge. When opened, the wine had a racy edge, too cold, too acidic and less viscous. After time passed, a whole new wine emerged: redolent with tropical fruit hints, light weight, and full finish.

  • Warning: I'm not very experienced with aged riesling. Bottle, capsule, label pristine. Cork soaked through. Not unusual as most old rieslings that I've had have exhibited this characteristic. Nose is initially all diesel, but gradually allows a little fruit through as well as wet stone. Apple, grapefruit, and stone on the palate that was a little underwhelming. I would have preferred a little more acidity, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of this wine. In the end, I would have preferred this wine more in its youth. It just didn't stand out that much to me.

  • Plenty of diesel on the nose, but such wonderful balance on the palate. Lime, peach, slate - just a great example of Riesling that went nicely with the pork loin we had for dinner. My guests were blown away by the difference between the smell and the taste.
