White cherry blossoms are everywhere under a gorgeous blue sky. I spent most of yesterday smoking Coho salmon. Today I rest. I bought this wine several years ago when the Vietti wine maker was thoughtful enough to include this wine at a local tasting. I savored it then, but now I have the whole bottle. I can sniff, pour, gulp, swish, swirl, and drink to my hearts content. Since I find it preferable to drink several glasses before I begin a review, I would say that I am more than ready. I decanted it more than an hour ago and already I can feel the effects. The tannins have softened just a bit but the full flavor has not diminished at all. This one has some staying power. The afterglow stays with you and lingers with obvious Barbera traits: dark fruit and a little woodsy but in a good way. Nicely done. Did I mention the daffodils?

  • This wine is always a treat and didn’t skip a beat on this night. I find the Vietti Scarrone, V.V. to be one of the few old vine Barberas that I really enjoy. The color was a deep, dark red with a nose of dusty raspberry, earth, undergrowth and just a touch of vanilla. On the palate this wine came across as mouth filling with candied red fruit yet balanced with vibrant acidity and finishing with fresh red cherry and rosemary.

  • This bottle was almost like a Zinfandel in its spicy and woodsy notes but with the kick of a Barbera that kept your mouth watering. What more could I ask for in a pairing with Risotto. The nose was a candy shop of dark fruit turning to blueberries and with a super long mouth coating finish.

  • Sour cherries, black fruit and a serious dose of oak on the nose. The palate is oaky, with some sour cherries and kirsch shining through. Still has lots of acidity and this remains rather closed. 89?/100.
