Community Tasting Notes (average 87.9 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 16 notes)

 Tasted by lolo66 on 10/25/2009 & rated 91 points: (209 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 7/22/2009 & rated 88 points: decanted for about 1 hour, leaving the decanter in the cabinet. Served at about 60 degrees, initially. Initially the nose was closed, but as the wine warmed, there was sour cherries, a bit of nutmeg, and some leather. On the palate the wine shows cherries, a bit of spice, and tobacco. (476 views)
Tasted by vdv115 on 6/13/2009 & rated 89 points: Tasted at a blind wine tasting. Decanted for about 1 hour. Cherries and spice on the nose. On the palate was dark cherries, black pepper and a bit of heat. Medium to high acidity and tannins. (526 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 3/22/2009 & rated 88 points: consistent with 12/31/2008 bottle (663 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 12/31/2008 & rated 88 points: decanted for about 30 minutes before first glass. On the nose got some spicy cherries and the typical tempranillo tobacco. Not overextracted at all on the palate the wine is smooth, with nice acidity and good balance. A nice dry wine that shows nice cherries and a bit of oak. (672 views)
Tasted by T.U on 11/14/2008 & rated 82 points: Mondo Vino (Wiener Hofburg): angenehme Frucht, Kirsch, leichte Tannine, schon jetzt gut entwickelt, hat aber sicher noch Zeit (688 views)
Tasted by lolo66 on 10/4/2008 & rated 91 points: this is a very elegant wine. It's structure and finesse are similiar to a good burgundy. The nose and taste are a combination of powdered dark chocolate, stewed plums, and hints of earth. This wine has alot of grace and the finish was pure. This was decanted for an hour prior to first sip. (691 views)
Tasted by finlero on 7/15/2008 & rated 83 points: Opened 45 minutes before tasting. Very deep purple in the glass. Tight nose of plum and ozone. Tight on the palate as well, but round and dark, notes of leather and coffee, with faint violets in the distance; some nice cherry tastes emerged after two hours. Twenty second finish. Tannins have mellowed to balanced levels. Currently rather two-dimensional for my tastes, but a worthy effort. Guessing it will integrate a little more in the next two or three years. Somewhat irritating QPR at $30. (832 views)

Tasted by gabriella on 3/29/2008: Dark and rich burgundy red in color with a clean cassis and cream nose laced with the occasional cinnamon, black spice and chocolate note. This wine screams modern in comparison with reserved cherry flavors in the mouth. Light in body, dry with good acidity, and firm, fine tannins. Nice, overall wine, that may need some time to express its full potential. Curious if there is some complexity hiding under here that just needs some cellaring to come out. 3.5/5 (1014 views)
Tasted by obiscoito on 3/29/2008: Deep meaty red color to this wine. The nose is kirsch, cassis, fat chocolate notes, and presents itself as very modern. The wine is full in the mouth with a medium acidity and and firm fine tannins. Rich cherry flavors, and big fruit, are unyielding as this wine will require a bit of time to open. A more dense Rioja, with sublty that has yet to show itself. I think this wine will be nice with a few more years in bottle, finally revealing the hidden spices that lie out at the edges. Fully dry and with a medium long finish. 3.5/5 (1036 views)
Tasted by foodandwineblog on 3/26/2008 & rated 91 points: Dark purple color. Biggest nose of the night with ripe dark and red fruits. Concentrated blackberry and cherry notes, hints of chocolate and tobacco with big tannins yet signs of great balance with some age. Patience is virtue- 3-5 years and this should be showing very nicely. foodandwineblog.com (1017 views)

Tasted by albeytw on 2/18/2008 & rated 88 points: Dark cherry red. Full bodied wine. High tannin , medium - high acidity. Black berry, spicy herb and cigarette on the nose. Aroma is a bit restrained. Quite complex palate. Medium - long finish with black fruits. (1056 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/9/2008 & rated 89 points: medium purple color. spicy berries and chocolate on the nose. rich, full-bodied and chewy on the palate, but not over-extracted. it is quite complex with spicy black cherry, tobacco, anise and chocolately oak flavors. medium+ finish. this is a very solid wine that definitely has a few years in front of it. 20% mazuelo in here as well. (1079 views)
Tasted by mulligan452002 on 10/4/2007 & rated 83 points: Drank a glass at Vinotecca. Undetectable nose. Somewhat fruity but balanced flavour. Good acidity. Tangy. Medium length finish. Mostly high notes. Overpriced, but high good (83.5). (1296 views)

About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos and Amontillados. But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
